Uncle Mikey's People Pages

Ways to find people

The Internet seems to simply ABOUND with different ways to track down people you know, used to know, would like to know, or want to spam. That last part, of course, is Bad®, but the rest of them are pretty good.

So far, the most interesting tool I've found for finding people is SixDegrees. This site is predicated on the theory that any given person on the planet is separated from any other given person on the planet by a chain of acquaintence no more than six people long. The idea of SixDegrees is to bring you together with your friends, and THEIR friends, and ultimately, their FRIENDS friends, and so on. At the moment, you're limited to seeing names only of your 'first degree' -- those people you put in yourself -- and your 'second degree' -- all the friends of the people you put in. But you can see bulletin board postings out to a FOURTH degree.

SixDegrees insists that privacy is VERY important to them. Every time you add someone to your contact list, they are sent mail asking them to confirm the relationship. They don't have to if they don't want to, and if they do, they are not required to participate past that point, although they are encouraged to do so.

People I Know

If you're not in the list, and I know you, don't be offended -- just tell me. I probably just didn't know your URL!

Jeffrey "Beeeej" Anbinder's" Tundra British Columbia Headhunters Circus"

An old friend and Kappa Delta Rho brother of mine. His home page isn't nearly surreal enough yet, but he's getting there...

Mark H. Anbinder

I've known MHA longer than just about anyone else amongst my Cornell friends. Indeed, large portions of my life are all his fault (although most of it is Jon Lane's fault). Of course, it's my fault that he's the Commanding Officer of USS Accord .

Buddha Buck

Yes, as a matter of fact, that is his real, given name. Doc Kinne's husband and aspiring Linux wizard. His page seriously needs updating, but what the hey...

J. C. Cohen

This man isn't quite as out of his mind as Snarf is, but at times I think this is only because he's been at it for a little less time. He's still pretty loony, tho'. J.C. is Accord's Chief of Operations.

Christopher Davis  and Helen "Trillian" Rose

These two cool and hoopy froods keep Mitch Kapor's (of Lotus fame) systems alive and happy.

Debbie Hisle

One of my earliest net-friends, from way back on the STARTREK@MAINE discussion list.

Jim Howell

I cannot say enough cool things about Jim. Cornell simply cannot pay this man well enough...

Paul Karlin

Paul's one of those people who can claim to have known me a while chronologically, although we were also out of touch for a long time until recently. He's one of the two people on this list who were in the general vicinity when I became dubbed "Uncle Mikey".

Ari Kissiloff

Ari is the proprietor of Public Communications , Inc., Ithaca , New York. He's also publisher of 14850 Magazine , a Trek weenie, and has a cool dog named Ella. What else does one need?

Richard "Doc" Kinne

After eight years in the wilds of Cazenovia working for SUNY Morrisville, Doc will shortly be taking his rightful place in the universe, becoming the first-ever System Administrator for the City of Ithaca. Richard also fills old shoes as executive officer of USS Accord

2-Lane Media

I've long since taken most of the commercial links out of my web - they used to be a novelty, but now, they're the rule. This one's only here because my friends Jon Lane and Jon Paijion don't have personal web pages. That said, 2-Lane Media (the two Lanes in question being Jon and his brother David) does some really, really cool stuff!

Rusty Lloyd

Rusty's one of my oldest, looniest friends. After several insane years at Cornell University, Rusty escaped to Silicon Valley. When I got dragged out here to Minnesota, I dragged him out here, as well. Yes, that's right, I actually convinced this silly man to move from the Bay Area to the Frozen Wastes. He's back in California, now, but he's still too clever by half, and completely out of his mind, which explains why he and I get along so well.

Chris "Chester" Manly

The silly man who applied for my job at CIT when I left. Highly Clueful. Cornell cannot pay him enough, either.

The Mogil Family

Michelle and Dennis, and their three adorable daughters.

Jean Armour Polly

Also known as Net-Mom, Jean Polly is even better at addicting the unsuspecting to the Internet than I am. She gets libraries involved! She's also written a book, The Internet Kids Yellow Pages

Joe Prisco aka Pope Zaphod

So, my wife and I are about to move and this guy shows up to look at the apartment. We get to talking and I mention Mark Anbinder, and he says, "I've heard of him... he runs that Star Trek club, right?" And I say, "Yes, and so do I; I'm the exec." and he says, "Then you know Doc and Buddha!" and I say, "Damn straight!" So, he spent two years living in my old apartment, and now he's Chief Science Officer on Accord . And he's never, ever been anywhere near the giraffes...

Michael Rawdon

Mike is one of the Old Guard from rec.arts.startrek, from the days before the Great Reorganization, and one of the keenest critics of The Next Generation. He was one of the first, along with Tim "The Enchanter" Lynch and, if I may toot my own horn, myself, to regularly publish 'Spoiler Reviews' on USENET in the early days of TNG.

Alex "Snarf" Schwartz and his Little Pink Birdies

This man is just slightly out of his mind, but that's OK. He's also pretty cool. He's the Accord 's Tactical Officer and therefore in charge of the Big Guns...

Elisa Waxman

Of all the people I know with home pages, Elisa has the dubious distinction of having known me the longest, chronologically, although there was an eight year gap in our correspondence. She's also probably the other person, other than myself, on this web who could give a reliable account on how I came to be known as "Uncle Mikey". Life is strange :-)

Tami Yaches

There's a zillion wonderful things I'd love to tell you about Tami, but the truth is, I just found her again about five minutes ago after a long gap in contact (surf the web, find your friends, neat, huh?). But she was cool way back when, and I'm fairly sure that she didn't become uncool in the interim. Film at 11 :-).
